Tale of two teams – teamwork makes the dream work

June 25, 2012

Successes but in a very different way

I am an avid rugby fan, and I was lucky enough to witness two great teams win on the weekend. The Wallabies held out the Welsh again and posted a victory after only a week ago and just scraped through with a win. The Allblacks on the other hand smashed the Irish in an incredible display of running rugby. This was a huge contrast from the previous week where they kicked a drop goal in last minutes of the game to win.

Now I am not here to comment about the game as such but more about the fact that history shows both teams won on the day and I am sure for both coaches and players just as satisfying a win despite the score line.

Both teams had already won their series 2-0 respectively. What was it that gave them the drive to come out and win again? The sides were similar from one week to the next, yet still they had determination again to win.

Was it the willpower or teamwork? Yes and Yes. But more likely it was the passion and dream of wanting the victory that propelled the teams into a higher gear. Pure and simple it was faith in themselves to believe they could win.

In business like in sport faith is the one thing that often distinguishes the ones that make it and the ones that don’t. The extra will and faith that just around the corner there is a new deal, contract or opportunity that gives them momentum to finish the race.

With the Olympics just around the corner we will have plenty of examples where people will do things outside of their own strength to win a medal.

I look forward to the many uplifting stories in the weeks to come.
